Pre Employment Transition Services Annual Report
The Arc Southwest Indiana Pre-ETS program started serving high school students with disabilities at Princeton, Gibson Southern, Wood Memorial, North Posey and Pike Central High Schools in 2017. The program is designed to help these students successfully transition from high school to their next path of choice. We work on a multitude of different skills and projects, depending on the specific need of the student. These activities include researching and touring colleges, filling out a FAFSA, creating resumes, work place readiness and soft skills, mock interviews and other goals the students have. We recently started the “Toyota Project”, where students interested in employment at TMMI use a mock pick list and several different shape / colored items and work on speed and accuracy.
We keep the students engaged in the summer as well, by providing a summer help and learn program where they gain critical and transferable work skills that will help set them apart from others when applying for jobs. Our volunteer projects include Emma’s Feed Store, where students learn to assist customers, take inventory and put in orders, Azalea Path and Lyles Station where they help take visitors on tours and plant vegetables and flowers.
We also prepare the students to be advocates for themselves and others by asking questions and getting involved!
