The Arc Southwest Indiana is a proud recipient and participant of our local Tootsie Roll Drives. The drives are hosted by Princeton and Haubstadt Knights of Columbus organizations.
The Tootsie Roll Drive is an annual fundraising campaign conducted by Knights of Columbus (a Catholic fraternal service organization) to raise money for people with disabilities. Volunteers in bright yellow vests stand at intersections and storefronts, offering Tootsie Rolls to donors.
The campaign began in the 1970s in the Chicago area to support those with special needs. It is officially called the “Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities,” but nicknamed for the candy handed out as a thank-you for donations. Funds collected support The Arc Southwest Indiana to provide job training, housing, medical care, and recreational activities (like the Special Olympics) for individuals with disabilities.
