The Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)<\/strong> provides basic nutritious foods to:<\/p>\n

Pregnant Women\u00a0(Up to six months after delivery)<\/p>\n

Breastfeeding Moms\u00a0(Up to one year after delivery)<\/p>\n

Infants<\/p>\n

Children under age 5<\/p>\n

The Arc Southwest Indiana administers WIC, a nutrition program, nationally recognized as an effective means for improving access to nutritious foods and promoting healthier eating habits and lifestyles through the State of Indiana in Gibson county.<\/p>\n

Our WIC program currently serves more than 1,000 women, infants and children. As a nutrition education program, we offer education on several topics relating to Healthy pregnancy, Breastfeeding, Infant and Child Nutrition to help the whole family eat better.<\/p>\n

Breastfeeding promotion and education is a very important part of the WIC program.\u00a0 We provide breast pumps and supplies to our WIC moms who need them. Our Peer Counselor, Carrie Kissel works with all of our Pregnant and Breastfeeding Moms to be sure Breastfeeding is going well. Our Supportive staff stay involved with our WIC families.<\/p>\n

Our local WIC program will be participating in the Farmer\u2019s Market Nutrition Program again this year.\u00a0 We hope to have a farm stand at our Princeton office during clinic hours again this year. We are pleased to have the opportunity to offer this program to our WIC clients. It is a big benefit to our WIC program participants.<\/p>\n

You must live in Indiana and meet income guidelines. When you apply you will receive a personalized nutrition assessment to see if the program is right for you.<\/p>\n

As a WIC applicant you will visit the clinic for a free visit to be enrolled and to pick up your checks. At the appointment you will receive nutrition support, and learn about other services you can use to help your family.<\/p>\n

The checks can be used at local grocery stores for cereal, juice, milk, cheese, eggs, peanut butter, whole wheat bread, brown rice, tortillas, fresh and frozen fruit and vegetables, baby food and formula.<\/p>\n

WIC encourages and supports Breastfeeding. Breast milk provides superior nutrition for baby growth and development. Breastfeeding saves money, Moms receive more nutritious foods from WIC and Moms receive mom to-mom support from our Peer Counselor.<\/p>\n
