July 2019 – Kaitlyn Hale
Kaitlyn started with The Arc Southwest Indiana in February 2017 and currently works in our non-24 hour Living Options department as a direct support staff. She was nominated by Jodi Neighbors, Director of Waiver Services who says, “Kaitlyn is dependable, goal oriented, creative and always goes the extra mile to ensure the individual she is serving meets the goals they’ve set for themselves. She is outgoing and loves getting whoever she is working with in the community.” Kaitlyn is also currently attending college!

What brought you to The Arc Southwest Indiana?
I have always wanted a job that allowed me to make a difference in someone’s life. When I saw that the company was hiring, I decided to apply and give it a try.
What do you like most about your job?
The best part of my job is getting to build relationships with all of the consumers and having that special bond with each of them.
Who’s your role model?
My role model is my sister. She has overcome a lot in her adult life. She is raising three kids, two of which have disabilities and she does everything she can for them.
What have you gained from working at The Arc Southwest Indiana?
I have gained friendships with many consumers and staff. It is a wonderful feeling being out in the community with my family and seeing one of our consumers go out of their way to talk to me and ask about my day.

Passionate, Rewarding, and Caring
What’s your favorite memory from The Arc Southwest Indiana?
My favorite memory is going to the St. Louis Zoo. It was the first group trip I had went on with the company. It was so much getting to see everyone’s reactions to the different animals and all the excitement.
An advice for current / new staff?
Our consumers count on us as staff to be there for them. Some of them count on us to help them do things around the house, others count on us to be there so they have someone to talk to about their day. Either way, be there for them and show that you care.
