August 2019 -Carrie Kissel
Carrie has been a peer counselor in our Women, Infant, Children program for the last 13 years. She works with all of our pregnant and breastfeeding moms who are served by WIC. Carrie was nominated by Peggy Howard who says, “Carrie is always willing to help others. She consistently has a positive attitude and works to build wonderful relationships with the moms and children we serve.” Carrie is also involved with the Southwest Indiana Breastfeeding Task Force to help promote breastfeeding in the community.

What brought you to The Arc Southwest Indiana?
My love for breastfeeding and helping others along their breastfeeding journey.
What do you like most about your job?
I love being able to help support mothers and families who need that little extra reassurance that they are doing a great job. Being that person that they can count on and talk to is important!
Who’s your role model?
My mother! She is that support person for me. We all need support in one way or another!
What’s one thing not many people know about you?
I have been married to my husband for 19 years. We have four wonderful children!
What have you gained from working at The Arc Southwest Indiana?
I have gained new friendships with not only my coworkers, but also with the WIC participants that I meet with.
What are 3 words you’d use to describe The Arc Southwest Indiana?
Wonderful, supportive, and important!
What’s your favorite memory from The Arc Southwest Indiana?
Seeing moms and their little ones grow and develop from early on.
An advice for current / new staff?
Keep smiling; people might just need that smile at that certain time in their life!
